ICAR-CMFRI, which stands for Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, is a premier research organization headquartered in Kochi, Kerala, India. It is dedicated to the study and sustainable management of marine fisheries resources in the country. The headquarters of ICAR-CMFRI is located in Kochi, a major port city on the southwest coast of India. The institute is situated in a sprawling campus that houses state-of-the-art research facilities, laboratories, experimental farms, and administrative buildings. ICAR-CMFRI conducts cutting-edge research in various aspects of marine fisheries, including fish biology, fish stock assessment, fishery management, fish processing and post-harvest technology, aquaculture, and ecosystem modeling. The pioneer institute in Marine research in India. The Marine Biodiversity Division maintains a resourceful museum, which is a designated national repository under the Biological Diversity Act, 2002. It has over 2500 marine specimens that include fishes, shells, corals, crabs, seagrass and algae, starfishes, dolphins, snakes, penguin, sharks and rays etc. A marine aquarium is also here. Visitors are allowed all the working days from 9.30 am to 4.30pm without prior permission(fee for adult - ₹20 and children-₹10).
